Beskrivelse
The training- and hiking trail of Simuna school begins at the former dumping ground. In accord with modern environmental specifications the dump has been closed and covered with soil.
From unseemly environment polluter it has become the favorite place of the children of Simuna where wonderful fun is to be had in winter. Locals call it fondly the mountain, because the surrounding lands are mostly flat. In winter the mountain is a good place for skiing lessons.
The track proceeds on into the forest, where all the visitors make friends with the nature and as a sign of their friendship hug an old poplar tree.
The forest welcomes its guests and introduces mixed forest, pine grove, birchwood, fir-greens and the moor. One gets to know many botanic specimens. Being very quiet it is possible to get to know the songs of different birds and if one has patience to sit very still for a while one can also see wild animals whose footprints are to be seen on the snow.
After covering about half the track there is a meeting with poku-folks, who look like they’ve stepped out from the pages of Edgar Valter’s „Pokuraamat“ and decided to settle here.
The track goes on along an old winter-road beside which there are waterholes that were formed at the old times when turf extraction took place here.
The track reaches crystal clear Mällo Lake wich is now full of water-plants. The path ramifies there.
The first fork is better suited for those who love just walking in the woods and listening to birds singing and leaves rustling. In winter it is also used as a skiing track. The trail ends at the schoolhouse.
The second fork goes over the bridge and leads along the side of the lake to exciting and unpredictable beaver track.
The beaver track ends at the Simuna spring where the Pedja river starts. Here it is possible to rest from the tiring hike, enjoy lunch one has taken along, build up a campfire and swing. Those who still have strength left can by previous arrangement climb up the Simuna church tower. From here one has a wonderful view of the surroundings.
The length of the training- and hiking trail is about five kilometers.
