Description
The Farm Museum of Carl Robert Jakobson introduces the life and work of Carl Robert Jakobson, one of the leaders of the Estonian Age of Awakening in the 19th century. In addition, the visitors get an overview of farm life in general. The farm which was established by Jakobson himself currently functions as a farm museum engaged in stock raising. This gives people an opportunity to make themselves familiar with cows, sheep, horses, chickens, turkeys and rabbits, as well as with different renovated farm buildings such as the cattle barn, granary, sauna, windmill and threshing barn. It is also possible for people to become familiar with farm work and old customs during the traditional events such as the Farm Day, educational programmes “Fall at the farm” and “Christmas at the farm” etc. In 2010, the School of Farm Culture was established in Kurgja. Estonian national food is available at the museum when ordered in advance! Interesting to know! Carl Robert Jakobson is also depicted on the front side of the Estonian 500-kroon bank note. |
